We’ve Ranked the Top 15 Video Animation Companies in 2023

When we think of animated videos, most of us think about our childhood cartoons we used to binge-watch whenever we were home from school.

But what if I told you animated videos can significantly grow your business’s brand awareness, customer base, conversions, and revenue?

Since these sorts of videos can significantly contribute to your brand’s success, we gathered 15 of the best video animation companies to help you breathe new life into your marketing campaigns.

You’re gonna want to bookmark this.

How we picked the production companies 🎥👑

Before we get into it, let us break down the criteria we used to rank these 15 video animation companies:

  1. Pricing

This one was a bit tricky. We firmly believe that you don’t have to break the bank to get a good-quality animated video.

Not to mention, everyone’s budget is different. One price can be perfectly fine for one client and an insult to another.

To try to be as objective as possible, we looked at the way the animation video companies break down their packages and compare them to each other.

Can agency A deliver a 3D animated video for less money than agency B within the same amount of time? If two agencies deliver two pricing packages, which one of them offers more benefits for a better cost?

But this method was also pretty flawed.

You’ll also notice that a lot of production companies on the list don’t disclose their prices because they would rather tailor each offer to the client’s specifications. While this isn’t a bad idea per se, it did make it more difficult for us to rank their prices objectively, despite being well-known companies with good reputations.

In the end, we decided to just ask ourselves: Is this fair?

If we were to work with this certain agency, would we be ok with the price on the website? Or, is this agency impressive enough for us to fill out the contact form and ask for a personalized quote?

  1. Time

So, after finally settling the huge dilemma about how to rank the prices, we stumbled upon another one.

Just like how there is no guarantee that an expensive video is a good one, a short turnaround time doesn’t automatically mean that your video will be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

In fact, some people might consider short turnarounds a red flag.

That being said, you also don’t want the video animation agency to take a year and a moon cycle to complete your video, especially when your whole marketing campaign is centered around it.

Not to mention, many agencies we found don’t promise a certain timeframe that they deliver their videos. Once again, it highly depends on the complexity of your video, their backlog, and even the sizes of their teams.

As such, we decided to once again follow the same question we asked when it came to the prices: Is this fair?

Does the quality of the animation video company’s work justify the turnaround time? Can we say that a video from them is worth the wait?

  1. Experience

This part was a bit easier to deal with.

Here, we weren’t interested in the number of years the video animation companies have been open as much as the diversity of their projects.

Are they only focused on one industry, or have they dipped their toes into several others? Are they able to match different types of messages with different types of audiences?

To be clear, there’s nothing wrong with specializing in just one industry; after all, it’s important for any business to find a niche. But niches can easily lock you in a box and limit the number of projects you can accept.

By diversifying your portfolio, you can challenge and grow your creativity, which is one of the first things that clients look for.

  1. Reviews

What’s the first thing you check when researching a new business?

The reviews, of course.

But not the reviews on their website. Those are curated, and handpicked by their marketing team to make sure it puts their agency in the best light possible.

Sometimes, they may be manipulated (i.e. taken out of context, paraphrased) to make a positive review sound stellar.

No, we looked at the reviews on Clutch, Product Hunt, and even Google. We wanted to read reviews that were as unbiased as possible.

And by unbiased, we don’t mean rude and condescending. We mean reviews that show both the good and the bad in a fair and balanced manner.

  1. Video categories

We also wanted to consider what type of videos the production companies make.

Yes, they’re animated but are they explainer videos, training videos, or both? Can they create a whole video series with case studies? An eLearning course, perhaps?

Do they make ads? If they do, are they exclusively for social media or can they be used on TV as well?

This is important because if you’re going to collaborate with a video animation agency, chances are, you’ll need more than one video for more than one platform. The agency needs to be able to meet as many of your needs as possible—if not all of them.

Again, there’s nothing wrong with specializing in only one kind of video. But diversifying your portfolio can ensure longer, more fruitful collaborations with clients.

Now that we’ve covered all the best animation video production agencies and companies, let’s talk more about why animated video, why is it a good investment and some other FAQs.

What is an animated video? 🤔👓

An animated video is a form of visual storytelling that uses moving images and illustrations to convey a message or tell a story.

It involves creating a sequence of images, which are then played in rapid succession to give the illusion of movement.

There are different types of animated videos you should be aware of. Some of the most common types include:

  1. 2D animation: This is the most traditional form of animation, in which the characters and objects are created in two dimensions and move along a flat plane.
  2. 3D animation: Such type involves creating characters and objects in three dimensions and giving them depth and volume.
  3. Stop-motion animation: This involves animating physical objects by moving them in small increments and taking photographs of each frame. The images are then compiled into a video.
  4. Whiteboard animation: This is a type of animation in which an artist draws images and text on a whiteboard or similar surface while a camera records the process. The video is then sped up and edited to create a time-lapse effect.
  5. Motion graphics: It involves using graphic design elements, such as typography, shapes, and icons, to convey a message or tell a story.
  6. Animated infographics: This involves animating data and statistics to create a visual representation of information.

Animated videos are a truly versatile and effective medium for conveying complex information or engaging audiences with entertaining and memorable visuals.

Why animated videos and what are the stats around them? 🔍📊

Animated videos are visually appealing, memorable, and can convey complex information in an easy-to-understand format. Incorporating them into your marketing strategy helps with:

  • Explaining complex concepts
  • Showcasing products or services
  • Increasing brand awareness
  • Educating customers
  • Generating leads
  • Improving engagement on social media
  • Enhancing website traffic and SEO

Tons of brands have seen huge revenue increases after adding animated videos to their marketing strategies.

According to Crackitt, two years after launch and spending way too much money on paid search, Dropbox released an animated explainer video that “drove 10% conversion leading to 10 million extra customers that yielded an ROI of $48,000,000 in extra revenue.”

In a client case study, Switch Video explains that the animated explainer video they produced for Rypple “increased conversions by 20%.”

Another animated explainer video they made for Jellyfish helped the company close an $800,000 deal within 7 days.

Branding.news reports that the beloved Compare The Meerkat campaign, which featured a series of animated videos about an adorable Russain meerkat family, helped the company’s growth by 70%.

And of course, we can’t forget about the king of animated commercials, Red Bull, whose signature animations have become part of the brand’s identity.

Now lemme ask you, why should your business miss out on thousand-dollar deals and massive conversions?

It’s 2023! There’s no reason why you shouldn’t hop on a call with a video animation agency and make some magic together.

How much does it cost to produce an animated video? 🎞️💸

Based on industry standards, the cost of a high-quality, professionally produced animated video can go up to several thousand dollars per minute of animation.

The price typically includes concept development, scriptwriting, storyboarding, character design, animation, voiceover recording, sound design, and post-production.

How long does it take to create an animated video? 🏃‍♂️⌛

The production time for an animated video can range from a few weeks to several months.

The timeline for the project depends not only on the length and complexity of the video but also on the level of communication and feedback between the production team and the client.

The longer the back-and-forth is between the two parties, the longer it will take to finish the final version of the video. This is the main reason why you won’t find an agency offering endless revisions. They usually stop at two or maybe three, if you’re lucky.

Frequent and effective communication between both parties can help ensure that the project stays on track and meets the desired timeline.

Wrapping it up 🎀

Animated videos may require time and money but they’re so worth it.
